Tawang Monastery

Tawang Monastery, perched at an altitude of about 10,000 feet in Arunachal Pradesh, is the largest monastery in India and the second-largest in the world after Lhasa’s Potala Palace. Established in the 17th century by Merak Lama Lodre Gyatso, it belongs to the Gelugpa sect of Mahayana Buddhism and is an important center for Buddhist learning and spirituality.
