Virupaksha Temple

The Virupaksha Temple was built in the 8th century by Queen Lokamahadevi to commemorate King Vikramaditya II’s victory over the Pallavas. Dedicated to Lord Shiva, it is the grandest temple in Pattadakal and a masterpiece of Chalukyan architecture. 

The temple is renowned for its intricate carvings depicting scenes from the Ramayana, Mahabharata, and various Hindu legends. Its magnificent Dravidian-style design later influenced the construction of several South Indian temples, including the Kailasanatha Temple at Ellora.

Mallikarjuna Temple

The Mahakuta Group of Temples is a beautiful cluster of ancient Shaiva shrines located amidst lush greenery near Badami. Built during the 6th and 7th centuries by the Chalukyas, the complex displays a blend of Dravidian and Nagara architectural styles. 

The site is famous for its natural spring-fed tank, believed to possess sacred and healing properties. Intricate carvings, stone pillars, and peaceful surroundings make it an important spiritual and historical destination.

Aihole
