Ananya Asthana is an Architect and Conservation Specialist working across heritage conservation, policy advisory, and contemporary architectural design. Her practice is rooted in a belief that architecture, whether historic or new, is about creating meaningful spaces that balance context, culture, and design innovation.

She has worked extensively on documentation, condition assessment, conservation proposals, and archival research. As part of the National Monuments Authority (NMA), she contributed to the preparation of Heritage Bye-Laws, integrating conservation with urban development. She also holds a Certificate in Conservation of Cultural Property from NRLC, Ministry of Culture, GoI.

Rifa-e-Aam: Lucknow's Forgotten Club

Tucked in the dense fabric of Golaganj, Lucknow, Rifa-e-Aam Club stands as a beautiful yet neglected monument whose name literally means Happiness of the Common People. Built as the first club exclusively for Indians during British rule, it witnessed the signing of the historic Lucknow Pact, hosted Mahatma Gandhi, Nehru, and Patel, and became the birthplace of the Progressive Writers Association. Today it lies abandoned, disputed, and largely forgotten by the very city it once inspired.
